The 365 Project

365 Project

Welcome to the State of the Nation 365 project.

This project, intended to be 1 portrait a day for a period of a year, has been just a little longer in the making, never the less the spirit of the project remains the same – portraits of a slice of life on this collection of rocks in the deep south pacific we call New Zealand.

I really think we are blessed here, we totally have the best of everything all in one little package of a country – and it really comes out in the people who live here – diverse, relaxed, salt of the earth types, just good buggers really.

This project has been close to being scraped a couple of times when everything got too busy/hard/complicated but I’m glad I have chipped away at it over time and possibly not for the reasons you imagine. Yes, I will have an immense sense of completion when I hit 365 images, but more so that I realise I now have a real cross-sectional slice of my life in these images.

Some of the early images almost got binned at one stage in favour of making it more ‘commercial’ – I agree some images are not as strong composition/lighting wise perhaps, but the thing I hope you take from this is that these images are all very special to me, they tell me a story, a journey, there is, for me, a lot of emotion, laughter, sadness, regret, sheer joy and an overwhelming sense of ‘being’ in each and everyone of these images.

I really hope you find something in them that makes you smile, stop and wonder or just enjoy also.

If you wish to be part of the 365 Project (you have to be in New Zealand to qualify sorry), drop me a line at:
